This demo video is an exciting deep-dive into a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) setup specifically designed for testing the control and protection systems of a digital substation using Typhoon HIL.

It is a setup for differential protection of a power transformer with an overcurrent protection system. The differential protection scheme uses a real Siemens differential protection relay, with the overcurrent protection of feeders and busbars implemented using the protection library components available in Typhoon HIL Control Center software, with seamless interfacing with a HIL Connect device.

In this demo, we cover the specific conditions for controlling the circuit breakers, the implementation of the GOOSE protocol, and how certain fault scenarios can be tested within this setup. Watch the demo video to learn more!

We would like to thank Prof. Zoran Stojanovic from the University of Belgrade School of Electrical Engineering who put together this setup for his teaching and research needs and allowed us to present it to you in this collaborative video.
