This brief will cover using a Controller Hardware In the Loop or C-HIL testbed to perform Model Based Systems Engineering testing of a microgrid. Using a combination of physical (actual) digital controllers interfaced with a FPGA-based hardware platform used to model the components of the system allows accurate modeling with the required fidelity to dynamically test and emulate operation. The resulting ā€œ3D CADCAM for power electronics and controlsā€ capability reduces risk, saves time and money, enhances operation, and provides resilience over the life of a project or platform.
